Millions and millions of dollars went into a handful of states in 2024, allowing Trump and the Republicans to execute the only strategy that could work – go to places where Democrats wouldn’t, expand the electorate, and overwhelm us at the ballot box.
And it worked perfectly.
To win, we need to be in more places, talking to more voters. We absolutely can’t surrender red states, red towns, or red precincts – we need Democrats fighting everywhere, up and down the ballot. We need a 50 State Strategy.
Presidential campaigns come and go. We need to build permanent, reliable infrastructure that’s ready to support Democrats up and down the ballot.
That starts with the DNC, working with the state parties, to hire the staff, build the relationships, and begin showing up in places we’ve ignored.
In 2004, Democrats had lost their way. George W. Bush was re-elected four years after the Supreme Court handed him the White House, and there was no hope.
But the DNC, under new Chair Gov. Howard Dean, had a grassroots mandate to do something different. Working with the state parties, Dean and his team rebuilt the Democratic party from the ground up — including organizers in every state, new technology, and stronger communications strategies. They didn’t take anything for granted.
Two years later, after constant resistance from the DC establishment, Democrats took the House and Senate. And two years after that, Barack Obama was elected President — just four years after one of the lowest points Democrats had ever seen.
